Born Johann (Hans) Holzel in Vienna, Austria, Falco was a member of several bands before gaining success on his own.  His first hit, Der Kommissar, debuted in 1982, followed by several others, including the 1986 hit Amadeus which hit number 1 in the U.S. 

Falco died tragically after colliding with a bus in the Dominican Republic in 1998.
